Kimberly Dawn of Kicking Cowgirl Designs - Equine One

In a very special edition of our Professional of the Week feature, we wanted to introduce to you an incredible person by the name of Kimberly Dawn; owner of Kicking Cowgirl Designs

“My name is Kimberly Dawn. My birthday is April 12th and a real cowgirl never tells her true age, so that's all you're getting!

I have learned that living a dream, having goals, and making them happen, can be a reality even when things get in the way. But that's when it starts to happen... don't let anyone or anything steal your dreams or your goals.”

With an unending thirst for life, a beautiful young family, and an incredibly supportive community, Kimberly has been changing the lives of cowgirls and cowboys in US and Canada through Kicking Cowgirl Designs since Jan 25, 2014.

Why 2014?

“That's simple, it all started with a phone call saying, Kimberly we need you to come to Uganda in May of this year. We need help and this is what we need here in Uganda. I thought how on earth am I supposed to fund all these needs. Then something started kicking around in my head... KICKING COWGIRL DESIGNS! I could sell shirts with a portion of the proceeds going directly to "WE" for Africa. That way not only am I a part of it, but the people buying KCD will be a part of it as well. We are all working in unity on this project.”

What drew you to this profession?
“I grew up in the garment industry. And my mom was a rodeo princess. I always wanted to be a cowgirl. I would wear my boots and bling jeans to school in Toronto. I couldn’t wait for Halloween so I could wear my cowboy hat to school!”

What is your favourite part of this job?
“My favourite part of my job is meeting people that I get to help find something that make them feel beautiful. I have been doing this for 9 years as of Jan 25, 2023. I have customers that I can remember where we first met or what their first item was that they purchased. I’m even pretty good at remembering their sizes!”

What are you most proud of achieving so far in your work?
“2019 we won best western boutique in North America. Our little 2800 square foot store was on the map. 2020 we became runner up.
KCD is a business that gives back. We’ve always been one that gives back if a cowgirl, cowboy is hurt, we give overseas to Africa and even in our own back yard.”

In January of this year, Kimberly was diagnosed with breast cancer. Terrifying news for anyone and especially someone so young raising a young family. But Kimberly is up for the fight and is bravely taking on all of her treatments and doctor’s orders. Her community is rallying behind her and so are we. We’d like to invite our community now to help support a fellow entrepreneur who is always the first one to offer a helping hand to anyone in need.
