A Farrier of more than 40 years, Barney has proven his dedication, experience and commitment to the equine field, from the Athens Olympics and the Toronto Pan Am games to the operating room floor. He has assisted in hoof surgeries and resections and continues to expand his expertise in pathological and remedial hoof care.
As a trusted adviser to veterinarians, elite equine athletes and their support teams, Barney is recognized for his extensive knowledge and commitment to positively impacting equine health and performance. He has lectured on laminitis, shoeing in relation to saddle fit, and static and dynamic balance related to soundness, performance, and the health of the equine back.
Barney is a founding member of Foot For Thought Vets and Farriers and also maintains memberships in the Ontario0 Farriers Association the American Farriers Association the International Association of Professional Farriers and the Northeastern Association of Equine Practitioners. He continues to take advantage of the many opportunities these associations provide to pursue his interest in further education.
Barney is a member of the Foot for Thought team and has endeavoured to educate horse owners over the years. In serving his passion for ongoing education, Barney has produced a series of web-hosted educational videos to inform the horse enthusiast.
One of the first farriers in Ontario to set up a multi-farrier practice. He now works with his son but at one time had many members to his practice which is the main focus of this episode.
Barney is also part owner of BWD Equine Services Ltd. who provide on site farrier services to events such as The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair and the Summer Series at Palgrave (EMG).
BWD also provides professional horse transportation throughout Canada and the USA.
